Rudy Rahme
Lebanon based artist, Rudy Rahme, has been globally recognised in his honing of skills regarding sculpture and painting through themes of Lebanese culture and personal poetics. With an educational background from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), his influences of anatomy and simplicity by studied artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci have helped develop his specialised practice in fresco and sculpture of varying materials from bronze figures to direct, organic carvings on cedar trees.
He invented the application of Fresco on wooden paper, charcoal on canvas, and charcoal and fresco on wooden paper.
Born in 1967 in Bsharri, Lebanon, he has produced numerous notable works throughout his artistic practice, exhibiting in a multitude of global networks including Miami, Singapore, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Switzerland, Dubai, Monaco and Australia.
The “La Martine Cedar”, also referred to as the “cedar of the father” is accepted as the world’s largest wooden sculpture in the 2007 Guinness World Records standing at 39 metres high with 70 human figures carved on dead cedar trees. Rudy plans on an additional 102 human figures on alternate cedar trees in the progression towards the completion of his significant major project, the “Cedar Forest” in Bsharri, Lebanon. Referencing relationships between religious notions, space and time, Rudy’s works consistently utilise the organic and the natural to generate such compelling ideas.
In 2005, Rudy was selected as the only Middle-Eastern based artist among 40 international artists to continue the work of Nelson Mandela’s 6 paintings that will be exhibited globally to support Mandela’s Foundation.
Rudy has also received many accolades, among which the Gold Medal in Lebanese poetry, the Said Akl Prize, and the Murex d’Or of the French city Nojance Sur Marne.
