Nidhi Samani
Taipei-based British-Indian artist Nidhi Samani uses her contemporary practice and fashion design background to develop mixed media works of East-Asian landscapes. Using traditional structures incorporated with contemporary interpretations of geographies and pathways, Nidhi creates narratives that reflect varied journeys for viewers to analyse as an insight on self-discovery regarding a reevaluation of individual directions and beginnings. Inspired by her 12 year travel journey throughout Asia and notably Singapore, her pieces are vibrant and textured through wood, plexiglass, cement, plaster and acrylics while retaining traditional forms of East-Asian landscapes. Her works intentionally propose a juxtaposition between its cemented material composition and subtleties within subjects of memory and the unconsciousness in which she refers to as the fossils of the mind.
Nidhi has showcased in varied international fairs and exhibits, including Art Taipei, Affordable Art Fair Singapore and Hong Kong, and Art Jakarta. Her art is also in private collections within Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Switzerland, Taiwan and the UK - a body of her works have been acquired by the British High Commissioner to Singapore in 2018.
