Shazia Imran

Sydney based artist Shazia Imran is known for her Mandala works that incorporate symbolism of unity and harmony through circular motifs, threading and contemporary mixed media techniques. Her works uses subjects that represent community as well as emotive abstracts that aim to evoke ideas of wholeness and connectivity between people. This extends throughout her dreamlike cityscapes and spring scenes where vivid colours and blossoming flora reflect such ideas.

Shazia’s collection exclusive to this year's AAF Singapore will be her latest showcase on her rendition of the iconic Mandala series alongside her signature cityscape scenes. 

Luscious
Mixed media on canvas, 97 x 97cm

Luscious is a unique mixed media approach to the new Mandala Re-imagined Series, exhibiting the complex layering of the acrylic abstract painting more prominently than her previous mandala works. In particular, this work incorporates black calligraphy ink derived from East Asia on a blue themed, fluid ground that reflects the cultural influences experienced by the artist. The signature threading is composed vertically on the outer sides of the work, creating an impression of unveiling for the subtly incorporated circular motif within. Luscious is an abstract approach towards the underlying theme of hope and positive outlooks found in this series. 

Vital Symphony

Vital Symphony is a mixed media abstract piece that is a part of the Mandala Re-imagined series, incorporating the noted threading and circular motif in a method distinctive from previous Mandala works. The artwork incorporates layered magenta and neutral hues with bold ink to create a balanced piece consisting of vibrant yet monochrome schemes that reflect themes of perseverance and positive outcomes in moments of turmoil, a commonly understood experience by many. The threading similarly creates an idea of unveiling for the complex painted foundation and subtly elevated circular motif.

Aizah

Sydney-based artist Aizah utilises influences from her external environment to develop impressionist and abstract pieces of Australian flora. Specialising in multiple painting mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastels, her works engage with ideas of flourishing and vigour through heavily textured approaches using prominent colour schemes.

Alexandra Yung

Alexandra is a Hong Kong based artist that incorporates elements of spirituality into her abstract pieces. Using her experience as a certified Sekhem energy master, she utilises her understanding of energy to create textured, mixed media works. The layers are infused with sand, clay and other natural minerals, as well as segments of pure essential oils that instil relative energy frequencies into each work. Mixed with paint, the organic materials permeate through the work, resulting in a tranquil and meditative piece suitable for any space.

Madeleine Ekeblad

Incorporating art with dance and music, Australian artist Madeleine Ekeblad captures rhythm through her practice using painting and manuscript collage techniques. Her abstract artworks sings to audiences with free-form strokes of paint and mixed media, a reflection of the artist's persona as dynamic and exuberant with an exploration of the role of art in contemporary society.

Rayan Sandhu

Sydney-based artist Rayan Sandhu, is an emerging artist that specialises in abstract multimedia works. Born in Australia he faced learning difficulties from an early age, communication and self-expression were a definitive struggle throughout his development, generating a need to disassociate and restrict himself in a box-like state. Using art to evoke his passions and emotions, his recent series is a sentiment to these ideas. ​
