Shazia Imran

Australian artist Shazia Imran is best known for her expressive mixed media pieces that explore the relationship between place, memory, identity and human connection. Working primarily across mixed media, Imran creates richly layered compositions that bring together architectural forms, urban landscapes, organic elements, textile, thread and found printed materials.

Drawing from her observations of cities and environments encountered through her travels, Imran transforms familiar places into atmospheric, dreamlike spaces. The vibrant tones and overlapping viewpoints within her works are reminiscent of memory and unity, arranged with textile pieces to create multiple layers that are reflective of her complex themes.

Shazia’s work is sought after internationally and is selling as an investment in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Her work has been exhibited internationally and hangs in public and private collections in Australia, USA, UK, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Thailand, China, Singapore and UAE.

In Sep 2019 she completed a large commission project for luxury VIP accommodation, The Mansion, for MGM hotel in Macao. Six of her pieces are in Rajamangala University Thailand’s collection. Her work also recently has been acquired by His Highness Sheikh Juma Bin Ahmed Bin Juma Al Maktoum.
She has won many national and international awards including Lorenzo il Magnifico Award at the Florence Biennale 2015, Applied Arts Award at the London Biennale 2017, ‘Most Collectible Artist’ Award at Shenzhen City Art Fair, First prize at the 2018 Chianciano Biennale, 2nd prize International Confederation of Art Critics Award 2019 London Biennale and multiple awards in Australia

AWARD WINNING WORKS - MANDALA COLLECTION

This collection incorporates elements of familiar architecture and urban spaces with the mandala as the central feature, a spiritual implication aligning with her geometrical mixed media works to express unity as well as wholeness that is reflective of human relationships and connectivity. Representing the universe itself, the religiously recognised emblem of the mandala within her cityscapes extends beyond linguistic and cultural confines to achieve this essential concept of totality. Elements of layering and thread are prominent throughout her paintings, further emphasising the significance of global connectivity.

This body of work showcases how despite all our differences the core human values across the world are the same. Using the mandala in her paintings, Shazia observe the similarities in various communities through painting the common motifs and weaving the threads to depict human connections.
