Rayan Sandhu

Rayan Sandhu is a Sydney-based contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary painting practice explores the complexities of communication, perception and human connection. Working across acrylic, charcoal and oil pastel, Sandhu constructs carefully balanced compositions in which geometric forms, linear structures and areas of negative space become visual metaphors for the boundaries - both physical and psychological - that shape our interactions with the world around us.

Central to Sandhu's practice is an ongoing investigation into the relationship between constraint and expression. His recurring of 'box-like- structures and fragmented geometric forms reflects experiences of isolation, disconnection and the difficulty of translating internal thoughts and emotions into conventional forms of communication. Rather than presenting these barriers as fixed, he introduces his forms with moments of openness. Soft, neutral and harmonious tones sit alongside more defined lines and structures, creating the tension between containment and release.

Sandhu's work has been exhibited and collected in Australia, USA, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. His practice continues to develop through an expanding body of abstract works that investigate possibilities of visual language and the capacity of abstraction to communicate what words cannot.
