Blue Smoke Summer 2023
Solo Show by Kimberley Willis-Mitchell When: 21 - 27 August 2023 Where: AAD Gallery, 104 George Street, The Rocks, NSW, 2000 (Sydney, Australia) About
Kimberley Willis-Mitchell is an abstract acrylic painter based in Sydney, Australia. Her focus explores layering colour to build texture and contrast. Living adjacent to Sydney Harbour, Kimberley is inspired by the ever-changing seascape and horizon tonal colours. You will find vertical and horizontal patterns, blurred line-work and dappled reflections in Kimberley's abstract paintings. This multi-layered approach is deliberate, with the intention of creating a sense of everything and the absence of everything all at once. This notion can be found in all oceanic settings, the fluidity and rapid change of water underpins Kimberley's artworks and artistic intent. As such, life endures and celebrates rapid change; abstracting this idea through calming tones solidifies Kimberley's truth and artist mission. Blue Smoke Summer 2023 evokes imagery synonymous with summer storms and intense Australian heat waves. Smudged smoke lines represent a subtle mirage resting above Sydney Harbour. Striking, angled line-work creates a strong sense of chaotic, fast-paced movement. |
