Soo Beng grew up in Malaysia with an immense love for his craft and is completely self taught, with inspiration coming from anywhere from Walt Disney cartoons to many past and present artists who also share his passion for being able to capture the beauty of the world on a canvas. His style can be described as “Mixed Media” - influenced by some of the world’s most breath-taking and natural subjects, combined with Graphic Design and illustration techniques.
Some of his paintings over the years have been used for stamp illustrations for the opening of a dam in Malaysia, a rice plantation scene that was presented to the late Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Soo Beng is not only a passionate artist but also an enthusiastic fisherman and an accomplished graphic designer by profession. Having worked with some of Australia and Malaysia’s leading companies on their brand message, he has still found the time to pursue his drive for painting.
Well versed and focused on various mediums of acrylic, batik and more recently, water colour – in particular rock formations. “Rocks have a natural uninhibited beauty, having a unique structure, form, character and are interesting to paint”
Having travelled throughout Malaysia, Australia and parts of the U.S. his life’s ultimate goal is to continue painting for as long as possible and see more of his paintings recognised across the globe.
